Information and Computing Science Program

The Information and Computing Science program at Beijing Jiaotong University is an undergraduate program under the discipline of mathematics. Beijing Jiaotong University was among the first ten universities in China to offer this program in 1999. In 2019, the program was selected as one of the first National First-Class Undergraduate Programs and has since been a key priority in the university's first-class discipline development. For 12 consecutive years, it has ranked between 8th and 12th in the China University and Discipline Evaluation Report. The mathematics discipline has achieved significant progress in the fifth National Discipline Assessment. In 2023, the discipline entered the global top 1% in the ESI rankings and was ranked 23rd among Chinese mainland universities in the QS World University Rankings by Subject.

This program is built upon the first-level doctoral program in mathematics, the Postdoctoral Programme in Mathematics, the Beijing Key Interdisciplinary Discipline of Information and Operations Research, and the National 111 Innovation and Talent Introduction Base for Information and Transportation Operations Research. Upholding the educational philosophy of "solid foundations, personalized development, strong competencies, and innovation", the program has established five distinctive research directions, including combinatorics and coding, graph theory and networks, optimization and scientific computing, stochastic analysis, and equations and control. This program aims to address the significant demand for innovative talent in the national information and big data industries. Aligned with our university’s top-tier smart transportation disciplines, it is designed to cultivate technical professionals capable of scientific research, application development, teaching, and management in fields related to mathematics, information, education, and economics, within research institutions, higher education institutions, and high-tech enterprises.

The program has a dedicated faculty of 52 members, including 22 professors and 24 associate professors. It also features one academician, six overseas chair professors, one recipient of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, one National Youth Talent, and six other recipients of the programs such as National Outstanding Science and Technology Worker, Ministry of Education’s New Century Excellent Talents, Fok Ying Tung Education Foundation Awards for Young Lecturers from Higher Education Institutions, and Outstanding 100 Talents Support Program. Additionally, there are three Beijing Famous Teachers, one Beijing Excellent Teacher, and three winners of first and second prizes in the Beijing Youth Teacher Basic Skills Competition.
